Measures of Student Achievement and Success

Vincent Massey educators conduct assessments for learning to identify needs, strategies and interventions that will help students attain their goals. Assessments of learning allow educators to identify learning gaps and next steps. Students are also encouraged to engage in assessment as learning opportunities to reflect on their own needs and actively engage in the planning of next steps.

Grade 3 and Grade 6 students also participate in the EQAO assessment of reading, writing and mathematics each spring. In 2018, we saw a slight increase in our primary reading and writing results. For a more in-depth overview of our EQAO results, please click here

Students also participate in school, district, and provincial competitions. For example, students participate in public speaking competitions, dramatic productions, and musical performances. Historically, VM performs well in national contests including Gauss Mathematics, Pythagoras Math, the Great Canadian Geography Challenge and the annual Math Olympics.

Our sports teams are also very successful.

School Learning Plans and Initiatives

Each year, OCDSB schools participate in the School Learning Plan process. Vincent Massey educators co-create goals for our students based on data gained from classroom and EQAO assessments. Educators collaboratively set directions and execute a "theory of action" using high-yield instructional strategies, and then measure success.

Vincent Massey also works closely with Hillcrest high school to set directions for transitional planning. Intermediate teachers, Suhana Kadoura and Greg McKean, participate in these learning inquiry projects.
